My Makeup Graveyard | The Harsh Reality of Shopping Addiction and Overconsumption

Hey friends!

This post is going to be different from my typical reviews, but it’s something I feel is important to discuss and bring awareness to.

I think anyone who was in the makeup scene between 2015-2017 was horribly aware of the makeup market boom and the intense push to buy buy buy and own a massive collection of makeup rivaling that of the largest beauty influencers. Or perhaps, like me, you were completely unaware of this and fell into the trap of purchasing mass quantities of makeup you could never hope to use up.

I want to use this post for a few different reasons:

  1. I want this to be used for awareness regarding the ease of purchasing too much makeup and what can happen when we do this and don’t use it.
  2. I want to feel like the products aren’t just going to waste even though they are no longer going to be able to serve me.

Everything you see listed in this post is going to be makeup that I went to review, but has gone bad and is no longer useable. This means that even though there is still plenty of product left, I did not use it during it’s shelf life and it can no longer safely be worn. It will all need to be trashed or recycled as best as I can do it.

Hopefully by seeing the amount of makeup below, you’ll consider your own collection’s size and use! This post is going to be updated as I pull makeup out of my drawer and identify it as too old to review/use. It may be months in between updates on it, and that’s what I hope for more than anything!

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Eyeshadow Palette | Review

Hello friends!

Back when I was first getting into makeup, my grandma bought me the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons palette for Christmas – I was drawn to the beautiful pink packaging and I knew that Too Faced was well known for their chocolate palettes.

Just like every other chocolate bar palette, this one smells like chocolate when you open the packaging!  It’s not overpowering in my opinion, and you can’t smell it after applying to your eyes.

Packaging: The packaging is a pink metal tin with a magnetic closure that feels sturdy and like it will keep the eyeshadows safe if I were to take it traveling.  There is also a rectangular mirror; it’s not large, but it does fit into the palette nicely and you can see your eyes clearly.  The palette name is written along the bottom third of the mirror.

Swatches:

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick “Queen B” | Review

Hello friends!

I’m back today with another liquid lipstick review! Would you be surprised to know that when I was in my wild buy-everything phase it was during the height of liquid lip popularity? You would not believe the amount of liquid lipsticks I still have left to share with you all.

A little caveat for this review, I believe this particular lipstick is starting to go off and the formula is changing. I don’t think that it’s going to change the review too dramatically, but it’s important to point out that my experience with this lipstick and formula may not be the norm.

Color: Queen B is a cool toned pink, and when dried down it has an almost purple-grey look to it. While I do enjoy cool toned lipsticks, pinks are not up there for my favorite shades.

Finish: This liquid lipstick formula is one that, unsurprisingly, dries down to a completely matte finish.

Packaging: The packaging on this lipstick is definitely unique compared to most liquid lipsticks! It’s an acrylic tube, but starts in a cylinder shape and then changes into a rectangle at the bottom. The cap is a satin gold color, and the printing of the product name/information is a metallic gold. Even the wand is acrylic!

Applicator: The applicator for this liquid lipstick is a standard doefoot; nothing special to report here!

Monthly Makeup Basket | November 2019

Hello friends!

Today’s post is a pretty quick and easy one – I wanted to share what’s in my basket for November that I’ve been playing with!  There has been basically no change at all except for a new concealer.

Monthly Makeup Basket | November 2019 - A Midwest Belle

If you would like to see my current impressions of the products pictured above, make sure you check out my October basket – I don’t want to be repeating myself since there isn’t a whole lot to update on.

New Additions:

Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer: First of all, wow, what a long name! When I swatched this on the back of my hand I was concerned that the color wouldn’t match me well, but I wanted to throw it on my eyes quickly and see what I thought, and I’m already so pumped to keep testing! It’s everything that I wanted in a concealer that I wasn’t able to get from the IT Cosmetics one.  I’m very excited to share with you all my final thoughts!

Are you trying any new makeup this month?

Monthly Makeup Basket | October 2019

Hello friends!

Today I wanted to share the products that I’ll be playing with in October and (hopefully!) getting a review out on them soon.  Let me know if you’re especially curious about anything you see and I’ll try to prioritize getting a review out on them!

Base:

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Smoothing Primer: I haven’t had much testing time with this primer, but the fact that it’s supposed to help minimize the look of pores is definitely something I’m interested in trying!

Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation: I’ve heard decent things about this foundation & I’ve gotten the chance to wear it a few times, but it’s been a while since I’ve really worn a full face so I want to see what I think for sure.

New at Ulta | September 2 – September 29, 2019

Hello friends!

It looks like Holiday season is now upon us!  I had a real love for the new eyeshadow palettes this time around – 6 of the new items are palettes!  Additionally, I’m really loving the little kits that come out and had quite a few on this list.  I just feel like kits are an amazing way to try a lot of different products/colors at a much more affordable price – plus, I have too much makeup to ever go through, so the smaller products make me feel like there’s a chance of finishing them!

New at Ulta | August 5 – September 1, 2019

Hello friends!

I’m back with yet another New at Ulta, and this month was pretty exciting!  New brands were introduced, as well as awesome new products!

I’m especially excited for all the new collections being released; like Beauty Bakerie, Tarte, and Too Faced!  Plus anytime Colourpop can be purchased at Ulta makes it even more awesome, since basically half of my makeup is Colourpop.

As usual, there’s a ton of eyeshadow palettes that peaked my attention; surprisingly, I seem to have also been drawn in by concealers and setting sprays!

Too Faced The Sweet Smell of Christmas Mini Melted Liquid Lipstick Set (w/ swatches!)| IS IT WORTH IT?

Hello friends!

Today, I wanted to share a review of the insanely popular Too Faced liquid lip set for this year!  It’s sold out on the Sephora website, as well as the Too Faced website AND Ulta, but hopefully it’ll come back!

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how stunning this packaging is??

The set comes with four different liquid lipsticks, three in varying nude shades and one in a classic red.  The unique selling point for these lip products is that they semll just like their name!  So Pumpkin Spice smells like pumpkin, Sugar Cookie smells like cookies, etc. Unfortunately, each color seems to have a different formula, so I’m going to detail those variations quickly as well as provide a summary of some points.

(In order left to right: Cinnamon Bear, Pumpkin Spice, Hot Buttered Rum, Sugar Cookie)
