CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops “Moonlight” | Review

Hello friends!

CoverFX came on my radar when they released their custom cover drops, an ultra concentrated foundation.  From there, they developed other similar items in droppers, including these gorgeous highlighting drops!

Color:  Moonlight looks like a beautiful pale rose gold color in the bottle.  On the face, it becomes a silver color with just the slightest pink hint. Ulta’s website describes this as a “shimmering beige”, which sounds pretty accurate to me.

One huge caveat to this product is that it is infused with glitter.  I think this could be a huge turnoff to some people, because there’s a lot of people who do not want glitter on their face – just their eyes.  The first time I used it, I was shocked to find that there was glitter everywhere, and I assumed that it was because my eyeshadow also had glitter in it and it was just fallout.  After taking a really close look at this, however, I realized that there is definitely glitter being used to add the shine.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip “Viper” | Review

Hello friends!

A while back, I made a giant Colourpop order, and part of the reason was for the free lipsticks you would get for spending a certain amount!  This was one of the lipsticks that I was excited to get for free.

Color: Viper is described on the Colourpop website as a “true dusty rose”, which is mostly accurate!  I’d add that there’s a definite purple appearance to it when it dries down completely, whereas I would consider rose to be a more pink shade.  It’s also darker than how it looks in the tube, which is a bit deceiving, so be aware!

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip "Viper" | Review - A Midwest Belle

Finish: True to its name, Viper is definitely a matte lip.  It’s got the very traditional, completely flat matte appearance which ends up clinging to every single crevice in my lips.

Packaging: The packaging of this is very basic; just a plain tube, silver chrome accents, and shiny writing for the label.  I’ve had this lipstick for long enough that the writing has actually completely faded off – you can still see where it was, but there’s no actual indication from a quick glance anymore.

The stopper in this particular shade seems to be defective.  There’s a ton of excess product that appears to almost be leaking out despite the fact that I always keep my Coloupop lips upright.  I’m assuming that it’s just from me having to wipe the extra product from the doefoot off and it staying at the top of the tube.  My wand is also really messy looking and overall I’m not super pleased with it.

Wet n’ Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit High-Shine Lipstick “Send Nudes” | Review

Hello friends!

A while ago, Wet n’ Wild launched their liquid catsuit matte liquid lipsticks, and they seemed to be extremely successful!  Since the trend now is moving back towards glossy lips, they expanded the line to include this new “liquified lipstick” formula.

Color: Send Nudes is a warm, light-medium nude with peachy undertones.  It’s definitely on the lighter side, but it’s not as pale as some other peach nudes on the market.

Finish: The finish of this lipstick is, as you would assume, shiny like a lip gloss.  It’s not as sheer as you would expect for the shine, so it looks a bit creamy as well.

Wet n' Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit High-Shine Lipstick "Send Nudes" | Review - A Midwest Belle

Packaging: I really enjoy the packaging of this lipstick!  It’s a shorter, stumpier tube than a traditional liquid lipstick.  It’s the same packaging as their matte liquid lips, but instead of a black cap, it’s white!

Something important to note was that I had such a hard time getting this open the first time!  I honestly thought that I got a defective one because it was so difficult, but after walking away and then trying again I did get it.  After I got it open the first time, I haven’t had any other issues.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lipstick “Sapphire Siren” | Review

Hello friends!

I actually picked this lipstick up on a whim a while back!  I’d been wanting to try a navy lipstick and see what I had thought of it, and I figured instead of spending a lot of money on something at Sephora, I could try a drugstore version to give it a look & see if I like blue on me.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Loaded Bolds Lipstick "Sapphire Siren" | Review - A Midwest Belle

Color: Sapphire Siren matches it’s namesake – it’s a navy blue.  Sometimes purples and blues have undertones that make your teeth look yellow, and this is one of them unfortunately.

Finish: The finish appears to be a satin – it’s not quite matte, but I wouldn’t say it’s shiny enough to be a cream, either.

Packaging: I really enjoy the packaging!  It’s a traditional Maybelline lipstick packaging that matches the color of the lipstick, which is a beautiful navy!  The lid snaps on securely to the lipstick tube, so I wouldn’t worry about it coming undone in your purse.

Nudestix Cream Lip + Cheek Pencil “Whisper” | Review

Hello friends!

I don’t remember where I got this lip pencil from, but I do remember being excited to see it since Nudestix is such a positively rated brand!  Side note: I’ve been shocked recently by the amount of pale peach nudes colors that I have, considering I’m so picky about light colors in the first place, let alone peaches.

Color: Whisper is described as “cool mocha with a pink undertone”.  I personally don’t see that to be true!  I think mocha makes it sound darker than it is, especially because it looks like concealer lips.  It’s very cool toned and definitely has grey undertones on me, which didn’t flatter my complexion.

Comparing the hand swatch versus lip swatch, I definitely feel as though it looks darker on my hand.  Just be aware that this is one color that definitely changes in appearance between your hand and lips – at least it did on me.

Nudestix Cream Lip + Cheek Pencil "Whisper" | Review - A Midwest Belle

Finish: With “cream” in the name, I had assumed this would have a shiny finish, but to me it definitely looks like a matte lip product.  In the hand swatch it looks much creamier than it does on my lips.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss “Kristen” | Review

Hello friends!

Along with their incredibly popular liquid lipsticks, Anastasia Beverly Hills has some lip glosses they released.  I’ve had this one for a while, but never was really sure about how I felt.  Today, I’m giving y’all the low down on this formula!

Color: Kristen is described on Sephora’s website as a “cool desert sand”.  To be completely honest, I’m not really sure what that means.  I would describe it as a mauve with slightly orange undertones on me.  This color is definitely a My Lips But Better Shade.

In terms of finish, I found that this wasn’t quite as shiny as I had expected a gloss to be.  I would actually say that the finish reminds me more of a liquified lipstick than that of a traditional lip gloss.

ColourPop Velvet Blur Lipstick “Lucky Strike” | Review

Hello friends!

Today I’m reviewing one of the new products I received from the mystery box Colourpop did a few weeks ago.  This is one of the newest releases from them, and I was so excited to see it, along with their new mascara!  If you’re curious to see what else I got, you can see the other pictures here.

The new Velvet Blur lipstick from Colourpop is described as a “unique matte” that provides a “soft focus, blurring effect”.  In essence, it’s a matte lipstick that doesn’t show texture on your lips!

Color: Lucky Strike is a midtone neutral pink, and on me it’s a my lips but better color.  The shade has just a touch more pink in it.  It’s definitely a stunning color that would flatter a lot of people.  Depending on the kind of neutral colors you wear, this might feel like a dark shade, so check the lip swatch to see what you think!

Packaging: Side note: isn’t this packaging absolutely stunning?!  Rose gold is my favorite metal, and the stars on it add such a cute touch to it. The word Colourpop is also etched into the lid of the packaging and is the same color as the small stars.  The shape of the bullet is very traditional to any other lipstick, but there are stars embossed on it as well!

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Color “Obsession” | Review

Hello friends!

Before I get into the review, I’d like to start by saying that it did not go the way I had expected it to.  This was one of the first lip product’s I’d purchased for myself when I got into makeup, and I used to just love wearing it.  I distinctly remember bringing it to work and reapplying throughout the day multiple times.

Color: Obsession is a beautiful hot pink with blue undertones, which is incredibly flattering on my neutral skin tone.

Applicator: In terms of application, I really enjoyed the applicator’s shape.  It has a bit of a triangle shape to it, and the curve fits my lips incredibly well, so I found it very easy to maneuver.  It also smells absolutely incredible, like a sweet fruity candy.  While I absolutely adore the color and scent, the formula was surprising.
