Monthly Favorites | May 2019

Hello friends!

I blog about beauty a lot, and that is something that I love! But did you know that I have a lot more interests than just that?  I wanted to do a roundup of not only my favorite beauty items (if I have anything specific to share!), but to have a post where I can share the things that I’ve been loving that aren’t in my typical wheelhouse.

This month is going to be a little less in depth than any other because I hadn’t decided to do this until the actual end of the month, so expect more from now on in these!

Podcasts:

Science Rules: Episode 2 “The Right Drug for the Right Bug”: I have become obsessed with listening to this podcast because Bill Nye was a big part of my childhood!  There’s only a few episodes out, but so far this one has absolutely been my favorite. It has to do with antibiotics and your microbiome (the bacteria in your body).  I always find this fascinating, and they talk about something very relevant to us today: the rise of resistant bacteria and what we can do to help prevent that!

Video Games:

Biffa Plays Indie Games: I found this channel randomly and I am in love with it!  He plays a game called Cities: Skylines which is a city simulation; basically you get to build a city and do whatever you want with it!  He has a series that he does where he fixes his viewer’s traffic, and for some reason it has me completely captivated.

Horse Isle 3: On of my favorite things to do growing up was play an online horse game called Horse Isle, and even though I’m definitely not the standard demographic, I can’t help but be so excited to be playing their newest iteration!  It’s like an open world game where you catch horses, explore, and build your ranch up while socializing with other players.

How Do YOU Bullet Journal?

Hello friends!

If you follow my Instagram, you probably see my bullet journal spreads pop up at the beginning of each month.  I also wrote a blog post about my November 2018 spreads that you can check out here.

There are so many posts out there that talk about the “right” way to bullet journal, all sorts of different types of spreads, in general a million ways to bullet journal, and it can be incredibly overwhelming – especially when you’re just starting out!

To me, bullet journaling is an extremely personal thing, and the way you do it depends specifically on your tastes and what you want to get out of your journal.  When you’re just starting out, it can be incredibly difficult to know what style will work best with you, so I’ve picked four categories below that encompass a lot of what you’ll find when looking for inspiration.

Whatever sounds like it fits what you want from your bullet journal is the style you should give a try first!  Each category will have an example as well, so you can see exactly what it looks like and if it’s what you want or not.  If you’re interested in a specific type, be sure to check out the linked Instagram page for more, since each person has a ton of awesome pictures!

November 2018 Bullet Journal Setup

Hello friends!  I’m here today to share my first attempt at a monthly bullet journal!

I want to be clear: I’ve bullet journaled for a few years now, but I’ve never really set it up in a monthly format; I mostly just make pretty lists and dailies once in a while.

This month, I used the Tombow dual brush pen in 993, a Pilot .38 gel pen, and some washi tapes from Target.  The stickers are from various Etsy shops and Target!

The first spread I made was the ‘traditional’ bullet journal monthly spread.  The days of the month are listed along the side and the space next to it is where you put whatever is happening that day.  I don’t think I’ll do this spread again; even though I really enjoy the way it looks, I don’t have enough going on in the month to make it worth a page.

I also made a grid monthly spread, which I definitely prefer!  Apparently I don’t know how to count, though, because I made way too many squares for the month!  I might try to fill it with random statistics from the month, but we’ll see.  I’m using this spread as more of an editorial calendar, so all of my blog posts and Instagram posts are laid out for me to use as an at-a-glance.
