One of my favorite things about Ipsy is that it offers not only brands I’ve never heard of, but products that I really want to try from brands I recognize! One such product is this IT Cosmetics concealer.
IT Cosmetics has always been a brand that has intrigued me, but because of the prices I’ve never really invested in any of their products despite the good things I’ve heard.
Concealer Claims: Per the IT Cosmetics website, “this revolutionary concealer improves the appearance of wrinkles and effectively conceals the look of skin imperfections including dark circles, bags, redness, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, age spots and discoloration.”
Shade Range: Above is the shade range you can find on the IT Cosmetics website. I think that it’s a pretty extensive range, which is good! Some of the lighter swatches look a bit grey to me, but then again I wouldn’t usually trust those to pick a shade. The side of the page also shows a model wearing the selected shade as an example, which is far more helpful!
The darkest shade, Deep Ebony, looks to be quite deep and they offer a variety of undertones. The fair shades also look pretty extensive; my only complaint is that the lightest, “neutral” shade is incredibly pink and there’s not really a true warm undertone in the lightest of light shades. (The first “warm” undertone is the 5th shade from the left, top row).
IT Cosmetics also offers a travel size of the concealer, however the shades appear to be more limited.
Packaging: The concealer is in a squeezy tube, which actually works incredibly well for the product! The texture of this concealer is extremely thick, so it wouldn’t work in standard doefoot packaging. A pot would be functional as well, but since it spreads best by using your fingers, squeezing it out directly into your hand is the most convenient.
Application: I found that applying this directly from the tube onto my undereyes and then trying to spread it with my fingers is not the way to go – it’s so thick that it just pulls on my undereyes and doesn’t spread easily. Instead, I’d heard that the best way to apply this is to put it onto your fingers, rub it between them to warm it up, and then apply it. This worked so much better than applying it directly to my eye, as it was already easier to spread and didn’t tug as much.
I did notice that this has an incredibly sticky texture that was uncomfortable and stayed even after warming it in my fingers for a few seconds; as I tried to move it I would tug on my eyes. I ended up swiping it from my fingers to my face, and then using a wet sponge to blend because the concealer didn’t stick to it.
Initial Appearance: Despite how thick the concealer is, I was a little disappointed that it didn’t seem to cover my dark circles. Maybe they’re just too dark for any concealer, but since the name is “bye bye undereyes”, I was under the impression it would be able to cover them. There is potential that because this color seems to be too light on me that it emphasizes them instead of covering.
It seems that whether I set this concealer or not, it does sink into the fine lines of my undereyes pretty quickly. While it’s not visible from far away, if you look closely you can definitely see the product bunched in them. It also doesn’t seem to spread evenly no matter how much I blend, which leads to the product looking clumpy on top of sinking into lines.
It also has a very shiny appearance, even after I used some powder on it. Maybe I didn’t use enough, but I don’t want to cake up that area, so I’m not really sure what I could do at that point to mattify a bit more. It wasn’t even that it looked dewy or like skin – it was so shiny that it looked unnatural and reflected light strangely.
Wear: I don’t believe that this concealer has good wear time in the slightest. When I used this as a redness cover as well as to cover an acne spot, after around 6 hours it was completely gone. While I did use it on my chin and it potentially wore off while eating, I still do expect it to hold up until I want it to come off. I understand having some wear as the day goes on, but it was completely gone – I couldn’t even see spots of it to show wear.
When I used this on a spot on my forehead, I had to constantly build and build in order to get the redness to go away; yet once again by the end of the night (about 8 hours later) there was no concealer left to even wipe away, and I was not touching my face in that area or getting sweaty.
Overall: Honestly, I’m not too crazy about this concealer. I’ve heard a lot of people say they enjoy it, and ratings on Sephora and Ulta are high, so I’m in the minority with this. However, between the lack of coverage for my dark circles, the poor wear time, and the tendency for this to clump up and settle into lines, I just can’t get behind it, especially for the price. I will try to use it up, but I won’t be bringing it into my collection permanently and really can’t recommend you to purchase.
