This product is extra special for me, as it was won in a giveaway from a small creator who does not seem to be around anymore. Now I see it and I think of her!
Color: Strawberry Whip is a cool toned pink that almost looks purple; kind of like a very subtle magenta.
Finish: Being a lip lacquer, this product has a very shiny and creamy finish! It also smoothed the look of my lips, creating a plump effect.
Packaging: The packaging of this product is quite unique and I like it! It’s hexagonal, so it doesn’t roll around when set to the side. The tube is a clear acrylic, and the cap is a shiny deep charcoal color. Two of the six sides have the brand name and product information printed on it in matte black, and there is a matte black stripe along the top of the tube. The bottom has a sticker with the color name on it.
Applicator: This is the first time (that I remember) seeing an applicator shaped like this! It’s a doefoot, but is shaped like an hourglass. The end has a round tip to it, which tapers in and back out again at the base. The part that tapers in seems to hold a lot of product.
Application: I thought that the shape of the wand was pretty cool and made application easy! The downside to it was that there was too much product on it, which resulted in me getting messy lip lines on the bottom lip. The rounded tip did make it easy to get into the corners of my mouth without a big mess of product in that area.
Right at application, this was very prone to moving and got on my teeth. It was hard to wipe off easily when I got outside of my lip lines a little. There is also a minty scent that dissipates after application.
Transfer: This product transferred like crazy, which while not surprising, got a little frustrating. It wasn’t necessarily that it was transferring, but the frustration came from it constantly moving. I would wrap my lips around my finger to get off the excess product that moved into the inner rim of my lips, and I’d have to keep doing that over and over. It got all over my straw while drinking coffee, and when I ate cereal my spoon was covered in makeup.
Fading: Despite the amount of transfer, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the color still remained bold and shiny after eating. The thick look I had upon application was gone, and in it’s place was a still bright but more comfortable lacquer.
Comfort: Unlike other lacquers I’ve tried in the past, this one feels extremely comfortable on the lips upon first application! It’s very soft, and isn’t sticky at all. As it wears down, it does add a little stick, but not anything like other products. As it continues to wear, however, I noticed that it began to feel more and more heavy and obvious on my lips. After eating, I did realize that a lot of the excess product being taken off did make it feel more comfortable and less heavy again.
Overall: I was really excited applying this product because it didn’t feel sticky like other lip lacquers, but the excitement wore away quickly as it still has that thickness that a lacquer is known for. The color, while pretty, isn’t something I typically wear, and it’s too bold of a color for me to comfortably wear in a formula like this. It was really messy and just impractical for every day wear.
Price Point: Unfortunately it looks like this is a discontinued product, as I could only find one shade on the NYX website which was completely sold out. It seems like Walmart has it on their website but through the third party sellers that they allow. The price seemed to vary between $5.48 and $9.99; I personally wouldn’t recommend purchasing through third parties, so this might be one to seek out a dupe for if you really love it!
