Hello friends!
Since starting my Monday through Friday job, I’ve learned to cherish my weekends, especially because I’ve always worked them since I was old enough to have a job. Now that I have two days off in a row with no obligations but whatever I want, I like to put together a simple routine to help start my day in a way that makes me happy!
I like to start my day between 6:30 and 7:30 in the morning, but I don’t set an alarm. I just let myself wake up when I do! Usually Kory goes to work at 6:45, so I’m up when he leaves.
The very first thing I do is make our bed; I’ve heard a lot of different people say that it’s a really good way to start your day on the right foot, and it feels good to have our bedroom clean right away. It also keeps me from going back to sleep which would be very easy to do otherwise.
Once the bed is made, I like to go into the bathroom, brush my teeth and take my multivitamins. I’m not sure whether they do much for me, but it makes me think I’m making a healthy choice, which is what really matters!
After I’ve done that, I go into the kitchen and start my Keurig so I can have my morning coffee! While I wait for it to brew and then cool off, I like to play a Sudoku puzzle.
I use the app “Sudoku”, and play the daily challenge. I’m not sure if it’s tailored to your level of skill or if it’s a random puzzle that everyone gets; for me, it’s usually a medium level puzzle, and I like to play it to get my brain working. It forces me to focus and I don’t start my day browsing social media and losing track of time.
After I finish my Sudoku puzzle, I like to do my daily coloring page from the app “Happy Color”. Between the two apps, it’s usually about 20 minutes, and my coffee is ready to drink!
Once I take a few sips, I move back into the bathroom and do my morning skincare routine of toner, eye cream, and moisturizer; then it’s time for breakfast. The majority of the time breakfast is a bowl of Special K, which is by far my favorite cereal! I like to pull out my computer and play my YouTube “Watch Later” as I eat.
On Saturdays, I review my editorial calendar and see what needs to be written, edited, scheduled, photographed, etc. for my blog and social media. I like to write everything down on a notepad so I can see all of the tasks in front of me and determine what my work load will be like for the weekend. I also like to include any personal tasks like finishing a book I’ve been reading or working on my bullet journal, for example.
Sundays are usually my busy days when it comes to doing blog work, so after I start drinking my coffee I’ll get some YouTube going and start in. Depending on how energetic I’m feeling, I’ll usually get another cup of coffee, and that’s my entire morning! From getting out of bed to finishing my to do list, I’d say my routine is around an hour long. It’s very simple, but something that makes me feel at ease and ready to take on the day.
I’ve begun incorporating a lot of this routine into my weekday mornings as well, because I just love starting my day off productively and feeling like no matter what, I’ve still accomplished something. I would definitely recommend developing your own morning routine, no matter how complex or simple, to help start your mornings off right!
What do you like to do in the morning?
