My 2019 Goals & Resolutions

Hello friends!

Today, I wanted to share the goals I’ve set for myself in 2019!  Every year I set a number of goals I want to accomplish, and I love sharing them with all of you!  It helps keep me accountable, which I definitely need sometimes.

You’ll notice that some of my goals are very straight forward, like do X amount of things, while others are habits I want to develop throughout the year & never have a true “completion”.

My 2019 Goals - A Midwest Belle

Start a YouTube Channel. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a few years now, and I really want to make it happen in 2019. Since this is the first time I’ve ever put it on my list of goals for the year, hopefully I’ll carry through!

Plan a Vacation. I’m the kind of person that will always talk about wanting a vacation, but never really do anything about it.  This year, I’m going to finally take the steps towards actually going on a nice vacation in 2020!  That means getting all those little details figured out like flights and where we want to go; I’m thinking a cruise, but I’ll just have to wait and see what we decide on.

Complete a 30 Day Challenge. I haven’t decided what kind of challenge I want this to be, whether it’s based on healthy eating, working out, photography, etc.  I just know that this year, I want to complete an entire 30 days and not miss a single day!  I know that this will be hard, but I want to use it as a way to push myself to do something, even when I’m having a lazy/bad day.

Publish 50 blog posts. In the grand scheme of blogs, this isn’t a ton of posts – it’s less than one a week. However, I want to set a number that I feel like I can actually accomplish.  If I set it too high, I might end up struggling and feeling less motivated, which is the opposite of why I set these goals!

Fill a Journal Up. I own a ton of journals, and they’ve sat and gathered dust for years.  In 2018, I’ve been using and loving a junk journal, and I want to fill it up completely in 2019!  That way, I can feel as though I’m finally working towards using what I own and not feel so bad about buying new, pretty things.

Get a New Car. This ties directly with my goal of paying off my student loans!  After they’re all paid off, I want to invest in a new car for myself.  It doesn’t have to be brand new, but I’ve always owned hand-me-downs from family, and this year I want to buy myself something from a dealership that I truly love and want!  It’ll be my first big adult purchase!

Spend More Time Experiencing Things. I know this seems like a vague goal, and it kind of is, but it’s something that’s super important to me!  I sit in my apartment a lot and I don’t do things often.  In 2019, I want to be intentional about how I use my time, especially in the summer!  This summer, Kory and I went to a hot air balloon festival and it was so cool!  It’s experiences like this that I want to continue having, so I don’t regret letting my life pass me by in my “young years”.

Read 50 Books. Very self-explanatory! I’d love to read 50 different books again in 2019, just like I did in 2018.  This is both because I truly love reading, and because I have way too many books on my shelf, and I’m trying to shrink that number (or at least make space for the new ones I’ll be buying).

Make a Healthy Decision Every Day. This definitely seems pretty vague, but I didn’t want to have a bunch of different goals that all essentially lead to the same or similar results. I complete this habit if I do something like skip a dessert I could have had, choose a healthy meal option or opt for a healthier alternative, go to the gym, etc. That way I have more freedom in choosing how I want to be healthy that day instead of just “work out” or “eat vegetables”, which feels restricting and would make me less motivated to keep going if I miss a day or just run out of steam.

One Hour Technology Free Every Night. I spend the entirety of my work day on the computer, and then usually come home and spend my night there as well. This year I want to be cognizant of how much technology time I have as well as prioritize things that aren’t on the computer or phone, like reading, physical activity, and bullet journaling. The one exception is listening to music or white noise, but I can’t be playing with the screen!

Develop a More Positive Mindset. This is another vague goal that has a similar intention to the healthy decision.  This can be done in ways like not complaining for an entire day, complimenting myself/someone else, making the conscious decision to not be upset about something that bothers me, promoting self-care, etc.  I’m hoping that by implementing positive mental habits it will help with my anxiety especially!

Pay Off my Student Loans. A very straight forward goal, but one that’s incredibly important to me!  While I don’t have a lot in student loans, I’d rather get rid of it right away instead of paying the minimum and sitting on it for years.  I’m hoping that by the end of the year I’ll have it completely paid off and I’ll be able to get my new car!

I’ve also decided this year that instead of turning every little thing into a goal, I want to have a running 2019 To Do list of things that I want to complete, maybe just not at a specific time.  This is to make the goals that I choose this year feel like accomplishments, instead of just ticking off a box when I’ve done something.  For these to do items, I’ll be implementing them with my monthly goals instead of yearly, so that I can still work towards completing them.

Well, that’s about it!  I’m so excited to jump into the new year with these in mind & I know I’ll feel so accomplished and happy when I’m able to complete them.
