Hello friends!
Today I wanted to share all of my five star reads from 2018! This year, I read almost 50 books, which is more than any other year that I can remember. This was largely because I graduated college, meaning I had more time to read in general. Plus, I wanted to make it a point this year since I’ve always loved books!
The list isn’t in the order of my favorites, just by the dates that I read them.
1. Saga volumes 1-3
Alright, I think at this point I’ve made it very clear that I adore this series! I’ve written a dedicated post reviewing the series, so you can check out my full thoughts here. It’s an adult graphic novel series about a family trying to survive war, and I can’t wait to own the entire series and keep reading! The art is beautiful, the messages are beautiful, and I had so many emotions while reading, which is why this is on my favorites!
2. 1984
I read this in high school, and decided to give it a reread since I do remember enjoying it. I’m so happy that I did, because I absolutely loved this book! The novel is about a man trying to live his life in a dystopian world where the government sees everything, even your thoughts. It’s relatable to this day and age, which makes it unsettling to read. It also makes you think a lot about what’s going on around you. I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!
3. The Little Prince
I read The Little Prince in middle school and enjoyed it, so when I saw it for free on Prime Reading I figured, why not? And wow do I adore this story so much! It’s an incredibly beautiful short novel about a prince who explores space and Earth, and it’s just amazing to see what he goes through. The artwork throughout adds a lot to the overall feeling, and the messages throughout are very thought provoking. I hope to add this to my collection soon!
4. Vampire Academy / Frostbite
One of my favorite series ever is Vampire Academy, and I was finally able to buy myself a full box set of it! I’ve reread the first two books and still adore them just as much as I did before. While this isn’t technically the first time I’ve read them, I still wanted to include the series since I love it so much! It’s about two young women, one’s who’s a vampire and one who’s half vampire, as they try to navigate high school and the scary things that keep happening. This is the most basic description of the first book, and it just gets darker the further into the series you go!
5. Milk & Honey
I know that Milk & Honey isn’t for everyone, especially those who are experienced with poetry, but I truly loved a lot of the poems and could relate to them in some way! It’s definitely got that “tumblr poetry” vibe, but I enjoy it and would recommend it for anyone interested in dabbling in poetry.
